However in our world of bespoke kitchens, made to measure furniture and home improvement everyone knows that work has to be planned. So plan your 2013 kitchen renovation now, or start making plans for that room in your home which needs a makeover. It might be some bespoke furniture to improve storage, revamping a room with new decoration, or simply adding some statement furniture. You may be planning an extension to your home for a new kitchen in Harrogate, rennovating a existing home, or even building a new house. As Yorkshires finest bespoke kitchen and bespoke furniture manufacturers we can not only make beautiful kitchens and furniture for your home, but also provide a guide to key looks for 2013. This means that when we design your kitchen, bedroom, study, or any other room in the house, we can advise on the correct style, material and colour choice. Trends for the home stay around for much longer than fashion trends, however we do see new ideas and styles every year – so here is the Inglish Design guide to what you will soon see filtering into homes in 2013.
Kitchen Design will see the continuation of the vintage earthy shades we have seen become popular in 2012. So for painted kitchens and furniture the “50 shades of Grey” will definitely continue. Although we will see these warm with trends growing more towards mushroom and taupe shades. These earthy tones in combination with pure white will be a key look for 2013. We will also see these colour schemes include masculine elements such as blue-greens, teal blue, cobalt blue and metallic shimmer. Gone are the days when a kitchen had to be the same colour throughout, the trend for combining a kitchen to have timber and painted finishes is rising, and varying worktop materials is back 100%. High gloss kitchens are slowly disappearing and moving towards semi- matt and matt finishes. The key design philosophy will be for kitchens to be simpler and neater, towards Scandinavian in style- based on durability form and function. Social Design is vital, with the emphasis on kitchen living spaces. A large kitchen island with seating is a kitchen design favourite for 2013, as working parents use the kitchen as more of a family living space and a “hub” for the entire home. Kitchens will integrate space and technology allowing the room to be a multifunctional space. Fewer homes will have a separate formal dining room, and more kitchens particularly kitchen extensions will also include lounge areas. Painted and stained wood kitchens will increase in use, particularly the colour washed look when applied to oak kitchens and walnut kitchens. What was once referred to as limed oak, will re-invent itself in a subtle way, and will also see more of colour shading with this. So Oak kitchens will see the use of colour washes of light grey, green, blue or white – it is a light colour wash which allows the grain of the oak to be seen through the paint. Pairing these materials alongside pure white will be a key look for 2013. Handles continue to be less visable and more streamlined for style and convenience. The use of finger pulls and touch catches leading bespoke kitchen design. Where handles are used they will favour pull handles or simple knobs, and would you believe the simple bar handle will be back !
Painted bedroom furniture will continue in trend to include earthy neutrals in matt finishes. Inglish Design cabinetmakers hand paint all furniture using Farrow and Ball eggshell paint. We predict that colours such as Dovetail, Shaded White, Hardwick White, and Lamp Room Grey will be popular choices. Monochrome schemes usinh Greys with Black and white will never go out of fashion and we expect to see this feature in 2013 also. Furniture in oak and walnut will continue as a key trend, in natural finishes. Dark stained timber will also feature adding richness to light yet earthy neutrals wall colours.
Inglish Design have noted that the recession has encouraged less interest in the throwaway and the faddish. We believe that bespoke furniture and the investment into quality furniture is returning fast. In past years we have seen the trend for mass produced high fashion furniture – but the public now understand that this type of furniture simply does not have the longevity of quality or style ! Retro furniture is returning, iconic pieces by designers are sought after. Well made furniture will not just last for years, but bespoke furniture allows you to have something unique, which you can give your input into the design and style of, and be proud to own. All Inglish Design furniture is designed and made in Harrogate by our skilled cabinetmakers using the finest materials and time tested techniques.
Interior Design trends for 2013 will include the return of pattern. Nostalgic prints particularly florals on pure white backgrounds will feature. Accent colours such as fuschia, green, yellow and orange will be seen. There will also be a trend for bold patterns, monochromes, ginghams, squares and stripes. As interior designers our advice being – add a little at a time. An accent colour or feature wall paper is just that – its an element to a room – not domineering, but a splash or flicker of colour and pattern. Our interior design service will guide you through the correct choices for each room in your home, taking many aspects into consideration.
