Home Design Trends 2015
Well here we are already half way through the year already can you believe it ! Its another busy year at Inglish Design, with more amazing properties to work on. Variety continues as always because what we can produce is so diverse. So, as well as many kitchens now completed, we have also worked on all sorts of other furniture including bedrooms and wardrobes, bookcases and study furniture, media cabinets and hobby rooms, and even boot rooms. We have also been very fortunate to be involved with more full house interior design projects, and the second half of the year will see these finished.
Its that time now when many people are gladly reaching the a point where a holiday can be squeezed in. With time to relax, recharge and consider things, it seems like a perfect time to look at the interior trends for this year into next, with a hope we can inspire a few people to embrace their inner designer and consider making some changes to their home.
The Family Room/Snug
The trend for having a formal lounge and then a seperate snug or family room for day to day living continues. Whether this room also becomes a cinema room, part study/home work room, or playroom depends on the size of the property. This room is for lounging, and relaxing. Its furniture is informal and comfortable, but still functional. Bookcases are a fantastic addition to this kind of space, with integrated lighting that might dim down for a subdued effect. The base of these bookcasee will cleverly house anything from gaming equipment and dvds, to logs for the log burning stove. This is your everyday room, so the bookcases will house your favourite books, but also display your photo frames and treasures. Drawers will store gift wrap, selotape and stationery. Cupboards will tidy away toys, vases, and perhaps a secret box of chocolates. This is a multifunctional room, and the furniture will embrace this. With a room like this for every day, your lounge remains intact and presentable for guests, special occasions, or a perhaps just a beautiful retreat for time out !
Drama
Boldness is back ! Gone are the Ikea and Habitat induced coma of biege we endured in the last 10 years. Dark colours particularly charcoals and deep blues are right up there on the 2015/2016 hit list. Its a great way of adding drama to a dining room, pehaps via a statement piece of furniture to another wise subdued room. Farrow and Ball Stiffkey Blue, Down Pipe or even Railings provide the richness and drama to make any room stunning. This trend is even running through to woodwork, as the brave begin to use these tones on architraves, doors and window frames. Although the use of very dark paint shades on window frames must to suit the property – so consider this carefully before a bold leap in this direction !
Driftwood
We mentioned this back in 2013, and this trend continues. Limed timber flooring, white washed timber effect reminiscent of “limed” effect and rustic grain are still very on trend. Mix with pale grey or stark white for the best results. The feel is quite rustic, but can also look very elegant when combined with classic pieces of either modern or traditional styled furniture. It also sits very well with plain shaker painted furniture, which Inglish Design often manufacture for wardrobes, living room furniture and kitchens.
Form follows Technology
Forget form follows function, the future will follow technology only. the coming years are about tech-savvy surroundings blending together our digital and daily lives, while multifunctional pieces of furniture will transform based your gathering’s needs. At Inglish Design we do not mean a world of IKEA with stackable pieces that can change height and foldable pieces for easy extra seating ! The future is bespoke furniture which integrates technology in a clever way, and therefore makes like easier. With a bespoke furniture design this means you can have any style of furniture or kitchen exterally while building in your technlolgy. Already we see kitchen appliances which are starting to sense our every need and be programble via i-phone to react to our lifestyle – watch this space – kitchens are becoming increasingly smart. They are becoming kitchen living spaces – family and entertaining areas where you will spend most of your time. So the most clever thing to do in any home is, if possible, to increase the size of your kitchen – as these rooms truly will be the space which sells your home in the future.
Colour Trends
Shades of the 60’s are back ! Olive, turquoise, deep blues and dare we say orange are back. Grey remains the hottest thing, although alongside the pale tones for walls we are seeing bolder charcoals starting to filter through for statement pieces. Renaissance colours such as dark plums and rich greens are also set to return. Olive green kitchens are on the way – you heard it hear first ! And we will also see muddy shades of rust and aubergine making a return. Glossy paint is also making its way back into the world of interior design, thats one you either love or hate !!
Marble and Stone
The love of grey has created a huge demand for white and grey marble. As a result worktop fabricators around the world have been scrapping around frantically to find a solution for the kitchen market, which provides the look of Carrera marble but the practicality and durability of quartz. The results are now filtering through to kitchen showrooms including Inglish Design, where we now have on display many options. We have spent the last three years researching materials to fit this area of our business. Real marble is brittle, porous and fragile so is far to much of a risk for our kitchen clients. However, we now have options, and some are really fantastic. Also this trend for not having black worktops has seen many white and cream coloured natural stones becoming in more constant supply. So we now have options in Quartz, ceramic, and natural stone to meet our clients needs. We expect even more to arrive over the course of the next year – so it is very exciting.
So lots happening in the world of kitchens and interiors, we will soon be posting another blog about kitchen appliance news, and about bedroom and furniture trends, so watch this space ! In the meantime why not browse our PORTFOLIO and look at some of our beautiful kitchens, furniture, and interiors.
