Shaker Style Painted Kitchens and Furniture
Inglish Design have been crafting bespoke kitchens and furniture for many years, and there is one style which remains mos popular amongst our clients. Shaker style doors on our kitchens and furniture like bookcases and wardrobes are timeless and suit every property. So where did the style come from and how do we design kitchens and furniture to include this style but move with current trends ?
Shaker is a distinctive style of furniture developed originally by a religious movement called the Shakers, who it is believed moved from the United Statee to the uk in 1774. It is widely recognised and admired for its simplicity, and is associated with quality and functionality. The Shakers valued open-plan living spaces, and beliieved that objects in the home should have a function because “beauty rests on utility” These underlying principles of shaker design have given inspiration to some of the world finest designers of modern furniture and continue to do so.
Inglish Design kitchens and furniture is always designed with function and quality at its heart. Our kitchens are often in a hand painted finish, although can be made any virtually any timber as well. We design everything we make to have clean lines, and balanced proportions. Our furniture and kitchens are hand made using time tested technique, which ensures quality and durability. All of our furniture is made using the same principles, so whether you order a kitchen, or bedroom furniture, a study or bookcases, the level of detailing in design and manufature is always first class.
The shaker style lends itself very well to hand painted kitchens, and can be adapted to proved our clients with either modern kitchens or traditional kitchens. Our kitchens are generally made “in frame” so by adding a simple beading to a plain frame, a shaker kitchen becomes slightly more traditional. If the frames are plain, wide or angled the appearance is more modern.
Our made to measure bookcases are very popular, and often feature plain shaker doors, set in plain frames, in a hand painted finish. The look is elegant and timeless, which is perfect for providing your home with additional storage and a feature wall, without being too personal or stylised if you ever come to sell your home.
Our bedroom furniture and wardrobes are often made in a painted finish, but also in timbers such as walnut and oak. The beauty of these timbers speak for themselves, and so a plain shaker style door works brilliantly. Again, a bedroom style that suits all properties, and one which is timeless and suits most peoples taste.
Bespoke kitchens and furniture are a sound investment for your property, if these are fitted then they will help to sell your home, if unfitted they will mover wherever you go and last many many years. The shaker style works with all properties, so is a safe choice, but also looks fantastic. Pain colour and handles can trasnform the shaker look to sit within any style, very contemporary, or very traditional, or simply somewhere in the middle !!
