At Inglish Design we are very proud of the fact that all of our bespoke kitchens and furniture are custom made by hand in Yorkshire, and designed individually for each of our clients. The design process is based on years of industry experience in kitchens, furniture and interior design. Having worked on all types of properties and designing bespoke solutions, we are not just kitchen designers or sales people, we are qualified designers and craftsmen. Working in Harrogate, Yorkshire and beyond for many years we have completed all types of projects, which has given us the experience to take on literally any bespoke kitchen, furniture or interior project. Having worked as project managers we also understand the importance of communication, attention to detail, and providing an organized service.

Our workshop in Knaresborough near Harrogate, allows us to provide manufacturing for kitchens, furniture and interior joinery. Even though a number of machines are necessary in our production, ultimately each cabinet is very much a hand made by our skilled cabinet makers. All components are hand assembled and checked during every process for quality. All bespoke kitchens and furniture start with the selection timber and materials. As timber is a natural material we like to ensure that our suppliers not only provide us with the best quality timber, but from a sustainable source. It is our job to then design each piece of furniture and every cabinet with the right timber being used for the right purpose. Timbers will be selected for each aspect of a kitchen or furniture to ensure that the furniture not just well made, but that the graining and character of the timber is considered, and where this grain is shown it will line through, match and compliment the piece of furniture or in the case of a kitchen the job as a complete entity. We have a rigorous procedure of checking all materials when they are delivered to ensure that they are prime, and consistent. Often it is better for durability particularly with kitchen cabinets to use sheet material, as this allows for stability and longevity. Sheet material also provides us the ability to make a kitchen cabinet that is able to be cleaned. So as you can see, unlike many kitchen companies, our cabinets are designed and made for quality as well as looks. Framed kitchens provide both strength and beauty. The frames are made up from stiles (uprights) and rails, as are the doors. They are constructed and  machined by hand using time tested techniques. Our frames are always made of quality timber, either Poplar or Maple, these timbers are used because of their straight grain and lack of knots, which make them ideal for painting. Doors are then set in these frames in quality butt hinges, which give our kitchens a look of furniture, rather than kitchen cabinets. Of key importance to any kitchen are the drawers. Our drawers are solid oak and are jointed properly as opposed to being pinned or glued in place, each part interlocks to create robust corners to your drawers. We always use an oak veneered ply base let into the drawer sides so that, should you choose to store the full 25/30kgs made possible by our runners, the drawers can do this easily. Finally the drawers are always on the very best quality soft close runners. All of our drawers are easily unclipped from their runners to allow drawers to be cleaned/ brushed out when required.

The finish of a kitchen, particularly a hand painted kitchen is very important. Our finishers check all aspects of every cabinet for a completely clean construction, removing any surplus glue or sharp edges and fine hand sanding every detail ready for applying the finishes. Our hand finishing process requires great skill in itself. For painted kitchens and furniture  the cabinets are filled and sanded and then hand painted with a primer to ensure the best paint adhesion. This is followed by another fine sand and a further mid coat. Finally there are at least two top coats of a quality eggshell finish paint. Between every finishing stage further careful hand sanding takes place. As you can see great time and care is spent to ensure that our hand painted kitchens not only look fantastic, but provide the maximum durability that a painted kitchen can provide.

For oak kitchens, or any timber kitchens and furniture the timber is sanded and made good and then oiled by hand with several coats of high quality durable oil. The oil which we use is ideal for kitchens as it provides a thick layer of protection. The oil we use is so durable it is generally used on flooring, but we understand that for our furniture we must use the very highest quality finish.

We can also finish kitchens and furniture in spray painted finishes, this can be high gloss or semi matt. Timber can be finished in semi matt or matt lacquers for extra protection. A new finish we offer is a pray shaded lacquered finish. This gives our clients the opportunity to have a limed or blonded effect to oak or timber kitchens. We can also provide a French polishing service for certain furniture.

Once the kitchen or furniture is finished we complete the final assembly, where each cabinets’ various parts are reunited with our high quality hardware. Often large aspects of the kitchen for example kitchen islands will be completely assembled and all components numbered to ensure a problem free installation. Even  bedroom furniture and bookcases often have this level of checking and are assembled in our workshops prior to delivery. After a thorough final check we then proceed to packing each cabinet ready for hand delivery to your door. Because we install all of our kitchens and furniture ourselves this level of checking aids a swift installation, and gives us the opportunity to check all aspects of the furniture  so they are 100% perfect when they arrive in our customers homes. We find that this works incredibly well for us, and eliminates problems and confusion between workshop and installation. We will never employ subcontractors to fit our furniture as this only presents the opportunity for things to go wrong. It is an integral part of our business that whoever makes furniture then sees the piece through to completion.
