Back to Nature
Deep greens, rustic shades, and earthy tones not only evoke autumn but are also key in current interior trends. Don’t be afraid to delve into dark shades and offset the moody tones with warm highlights in ochre and mustard. The light from candles and warm white bulbs cast a comforting glow against dark walls and will help create snug vibes on winter evenings. Achieve texture by adding patterns and prints that look like they’ve been pulled straight out of a school reference book. Think animal print, butterflies and bugs, detailed botanical illustrations and playful animals. Foliage is a key element to this look, so if you don’t have green fingers, include it in your wallpaper or fabric. If you are not a big pattern lover but would like to add a bit of detail or small statement, there are many accessories available such as patterned light shades and cushions which can do this really well.
For texture add chunky knitted throws, boucle cushions, and faux fur. The current interior colour trends have never followed nature quite so closely yet in a sophisticated way. So, kick up the leaves and feel inspired!
Below are some of the paint colours on trend this season available from Farrow and Ball.
Taking Colours and making them into a Scheme.
The easiest way to start a room scheme is to start with either a fabric or print that you like and take the colours from this. Or, alternatively, as large pieces such as sofas and furniture take visual precedence you can start with them. It easier to look at large areas of colour such as floor coverings and sofas or bed and then add your scheme around them.
You can see above how on trend colours can be cleverly used within schemes. You may be brave enough to use a bold colour on the walls or keep the walls neutral and add colour and pattern via statement furniture or accessories. A splash of a vibrant yellow ochre against earthy tones or even dark blue tones can work fantastically.
So, as you can see the on-trend Autumn colours can be made into all sorts of schemes to suit any type of home. It doesn’t necessarily mean a complete room makeover – but maybe some new cushions, lampshades or a feature wall in a new colour or wallpaper! It’s time to kick up the Leaves! Change things up and get ready to cosy down for winter in your beautiful home!
