Below we have listed 10 fresh bedroom ideas to inspire you ! So whether you choose to have new custom made wardrobes, a new bed, perhaps a new dressing table, re work your storage space, or simply re decorate with the latest colours – let Inglish Design provide you with room for thought.
The bedroom is one of the most sacred rooms of the house, not merely a space to sleep, it is a personal space. This room is not on diplay to everyone who visits your home, it is private – all the more reason for it to be designed to meet your every need both practically and aesthetically. When Inglish Design plan a bedroom we consider all elements in order to reach the perfect room for our clients. The design will consider space planning, storage, function and style. The psychological effect and mental state a room can put one into; the colors, feel and energy which it emits. It just so happens the bedroom is the first environment we are subjected to when our eyes open and it’s also the last image which we have when falling asleep. For some people the room will be about successful storage and organisation, for others it will focus on colour and texture. For all of our clients we will provide luxury bedroom furniture, so that whether it is made to measure wardrobes or a freestanding furniture they will love the look of it but also enjoy the quality.
Here are 10 bedroom trends which we believe are key for 2014.
1. Floral Art
Florals are key for 2014, and have been edging in from the fashion world to the interiors world for the last 12 months. The world of interiors has reflected simplistic styles during the last decade, so the re-introduction of florals is very welcome. And while at Inglish Design we often find clients are nervous of florals and strong pattern, it is worth noting that for the less brave florals can be introduced into your home subtly. And the bedroom is a perfect room to do this. Digital art and digital wall papers are allowing interior designers to include bold feature walls, and these are a key look this year. The great thing about these wall papers is the ability to change them if you become tired of them.
2.Gray, Soft Blacks, Neutrals and off Whites
The many shades of gray and taupe continue to feature with interior fashion. Take a visit to any of the interior design or trade fairs this year and you’ll see this color palette prevalent amongst vendors. Popular amongst vendors means in demand from customers, which means this will be one of the trends of 2014. Working alongside timbers such as Dark Walnut, these colours are inviting and comforting, while exuding style and class. Soft blacks and truffle tones, against off white or even bright white work best, with accents in silvery gray. Metallics work very well with these tones to give that feel of luxury, with silver and watch this space copper featuring in many interiors.
3. Hotel Style
Some will loathe this one, but hotel style bedrooms are edging their foot through the door of home bedroom design. Beds as large as possible with extravagant headboards, bringing in the practical elements such as bedside lighting, masculine colours with a dash of colur being adding via upholstered chairs, bed runners or cushions. With the hotel look you aim for luxurious texture, rich colour and large scale. Velvets, fur, silk – tactile materials create a soft inviting ambience. Lighting is one of the most important factors in affecting the mood of people, and that’s where the soft mood lighting of hotel rooms works.
4.Radiant Orchid
If you want a bolder colour injection than the above styles, Pantone the leading authority on colour has chosen Radiant Orchid as its colour choice for 2014. This sits alongisde some pretty bold colours created by Pantone for 2014. Radiant Orchid is an energising colour and one which sits perfectly alongside pure whites or pastel shades making it pretty prefect for bedrooms. Use it on a feature wall, or more sparingly on lampshades, floral art, rugs, patterned cushion, pillow, bed covering and upholstery covering. Here is the pallett by Pantone for 2014 – use these shades cleverly and you are at the leading edge of colour trend for 2014 ! The Pantone designers take a modern twist on the traditional for spring 2014 by pairing soft pastels with vivid brights to create a colorful equilibrium. Inspired by ” a mixture of blooming flowers, travels abroad and strong, confident women “ the Pantone designers “use color to refresh, revive and defy conventional wisdom.” ( thats what they say! – love the confident women aspect !!)
5.Celtic Vibes
Natural wool fabrics continue to influence the world of fashion and interiors – although clearly this works better for interiors during the summer months !! Fabric houses such as Moon continue to lead the way with their reinvention of tweed and tartan patterns ! These work so well with hand painted furniture. Inglish Design have completed many interiors which combine light coloured hand painted wardrobes and bedroom furniture with these fabrics. It is a welcoming and timeless look. The boutique range takes this to a new and more modern level with zesty and vibrant colours.
6. Danish Form and Function
Danish style prevails again in 2014. The uncluttered, organised room, with minimal lines. Simple furniture, plain wardrobes, functional storage designs, floating chunky shelves. The great thing about this style is that add an feature bed into the mix and the whole thing comes together. Upholstered beds or timber beds add a statement, or add a feature headboard to give the room a focal point. Pure White works well particularly alongside limed furniture in natural oak. This is a look which has led the way for a few years now, and shows no sign of disappearing in 2014.
9.Natural Materials
Natural tones, wood features, metals, stone & brick, all factor in for 2014. Use natural timbers such as oak or walnut for bedroom furniture, they will stand the test of time in the fashion stakes and also in durability. The days of high gloss mass manufactured furniture are gone, and high quality timber furniture returns – horrah ! Timber bedroom furniture such as oak wardrobes or walnut furniture is an investment, it doesn’t ever go out of fashion and is robust enough to last many years. At Inglish Design we manufacture a lot of hand painted furniture, however we are noticing a trend for walnut and oak for bedroom furniture. Wallpaper manufacturers such as Andrew Martin are also including rustic and natural printed wallpapers which can be used to give your room that natural look.
10. Clever Storage

Adding value to your home means using the space you have cleverly, so if you convert your attic we have make angled wardrobes to fit the ceiling space, or if you have an awkward shaped room we can make it work as a dressing room or bedroom.
